When you begin our program, you are making a choice to transform yourself into the person you want to be. Hua Long means transformed dragon, which sums up our system's philosophy. We believe in the transformative effects of kung fu. We feel that anyone can unleash the dragon inside them through rigorous training, dedication, and humility. Our kung fu program provides a place for change: an instructor to motivate you, peers to nurture you, ideas to challenge you, and ultimately the tools to become whomever you want to be.

We stress the incorporation of kung fu into our everyday lives. Self-defense forms the core of our training, but we find we use the lessons most often for focus, peace of mind, energy cultivation, awareness, and sensitivity. Kung fu enhances our lives and provides a unique and useful way to view the modern world. At the Hua Long Kung Fu School, you will learn self-defense and self-awareness.

The system we practice blends northern and southern kung fu styles. Our lineage began in the 1930's with a man named Chin Li and continues into its fourth generation at our school. We include dragon animal sets and sparring, along with our regular curriculum of techniques, forms, weapons, tai-chi, qi gong, chin na, various types of animal based kung fu, and training exercises. We offer an option to people who would prefer to learn traditional material from a school with more modern teaching methods and a contemporary outlook.

We hold three classes per week in Century City (West Los Angeles). Each class is about two hours long, and we always welcome beginners. Our sessions are physically challenging, energy cultivating, and most enjoyable. You can try us out twice for free, after which sessions are $10 apiece. They're free to members of the Meridian Sports Club, which you might join if you really enjoy our program and want to attend regularly.
